BUNAC has set up a special two year validity air ticket with Air New Zealand for Work New Zealand participants. Details are provided on application, or call 1-800-462-8622 for further information.
Participants can choose their own flight routes and dates of arrival. However, it is a program condition that you arrive in Auckland for the compulsory orientation. We use your confirmed flight itinerary to book your two night’s arrival accommodation.
Travel in New Zealand
You can probably extend your stay by three months as a tourist but in any case, whether you work as you travel or work then travel, you will probably want to see as much of New Zealand as possible. New Zealand may be small, but there are great variations in scenery. Friendly cities contrast with long, sandy beaches, rugged mountains and lush tropical and temperate forests.
New Zealand is also a great place for adventure and extreme sports. Skiing, snowboarding, surfing, bungy jumping, scuba diving, whitewater rafting, mountain biking and rock climbing are as widely available as less rugged options such as hiking, camping and horseback riding.
Traveling from place to place is easy via bus, plane, train or car. The cheapest and most popular way to travel is by bus. Discount bus passes can be purchased before or after arrival as can special air and rail bargains. IEP can give you information about buying or leasing a car.
There is plenty of budget/backpacker accommodation throughout the country, both through the Youth Hostel Association (YHA) and independent hostels. Hostels are also great places to meet other people of all nationalities.
Australia/New Zealand combo package
With this option participants can combine four months in Australia followed by up to twelve months working and traveling in New Zealand on BUNAC’s Work New Zealand program.
In order to apply for the Work Australia/Work New Zealand Combo Package you must indicate on the Application Form that you are applying to both programs. The standard fees of $655 for Work Australia and $495 for Work New Zealand apply for both programs. Two separate money orders payable to BUNAC should be sent in at the time of application.
